Immersive Design Gallery
The brief for this project is to explore, design and recommend options for Swinburne University and Swinburne School of Design to create gallery space/s on its Hawthorn campus. The gallery will showcase student and research work and create an immersive experience for visitors exploring the gallery and viewing the exhibited work. The gallery should be an inclusive environment and promote Swinburne and its students and researchers in a positive way.
Having a gallery on campus will be a great opportunity for Swinburne to encourage industry to work with Swinburne as a partner across research projects. Showcasing high quality student work and research outcomes will be a really strong step in creating more partnerships with industry.
The gallery needs to be branded with its own unique identity which still makes sense in a Swinburne environment and works in tandem with the Swinburne brand.
The Gallery should be able to reinvent itself for exhibitions and display new work on a regular basis and should encompass a broad range of disciplines as part of the gallery.
This project explores the possibility and feasibility of creating a gallery space at Swinburne. The process explored competitor research, gallery format concepts and branding and envisaging what a gallery at Swinburne might look like.
Several options were explored for unique ways to setup the gallery. The final option considered and recommended was to create an immersive, experience based gallery, built on cutting edge technology and mixed reality experiences. This ranges from 360˚video experiences, through to large format digital publications with gesture based interactions.
Creating this type of gallery will split Swinburne apart from the crowd of other university galleries, and create a new experience that will bring people on to campus to experience what the gallery has to offer.
